Whats Up Addicts! Today we have an interview with one of Chicago’s most popular and favorite DJ’s both on the airwaves and in the streets! He goes by the name DJ Reese and he took the time to answer a few questions for us about what he does! We also included his bio below, so you all can get familiar with DJ Reese and his movement! BIOGRAPHY DJ REESE The Man! His Life! His Destiny! Known as “YA NEW FAVORITE DJ” Maurice Davis aka DJ Reese went from rocking basements to rocking the mic with some of the hottest DJs in the industry. DJ Reese’s love for music started at an early age by his mom who was mom by day and a DJ by night. DJ Reese began djing at high schools and neighborhood events. Over the next few years Reese realized that the idea of making a career out of making people dance was possible. May 1999 was the turning point of when Maurice Davis transformed to DJ Reese! Since then, Reese has catapulted onto the Chicago Nightlife scene. His style of DJing has its own identity engulfing a vibrant, electrifying feel and close to perfection. Reese feels the crowd and satisfies the people with great presentation. Compared to the many greats that have been taught the fundamentals of a disc jockey, DJ Reese talent comes second nature, without thought. DJ Reese was honored as DJ of the Year 2005 Award from Club Jaguar along with several mix tapes as well as hosting some of the music industries up and coming artists within Chicago. He has also worked with several top promoters in the Chicagoland Area and is a member of Power 92 Chicago’s Mixshow Dj’s. Dj Reese has also worked with several artist and celebrities including Tity Boi (2 Chainz), Flavor Flav, Trina, Shawnna, Twista, Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat) , Bobby Simmons and Lil Kim and more. DJ Reese is also the Co-CEO of Supreme Team Ent. —- Q & A - What’s the first thing you would say if someone asked, what does “DJ Reese” do? DJ Reese gets the party cracking and keeps it that way…I make you wanna come back! I am going to give you an experience! What is the significance of your name and how did you get that name? My disc jockey name is just short for Maurice my birth name. I went with “DJ Reese” because everyone always knew me as “Big Reese” so I just dropped the “Big” and rolled with it.
Describe your style? Energetic! What was the first record you start scratching and mixing on the turn tables? Tom Tom Club Genius of Love. Describe the hip-hop scene in your city? Chicago has lots of great music and packed parties and events. What other artists have you had the opportunity to work with? I have worked with Twista, Shawnna, Lil Kim, Rotimi, Yung Holla, B Ford, Dat Boy Hot, Plies and Showtime….. There are so many to name I could go on forever! Who and what are your influences? My mom is my biggest influence, she was a DJ when I was a kid. She taught me everything about being a DJ. How to set up the equipment and how to blend records….everything. What should people expect from your upcoming projects? Expect me to definitely rock the party to a higher level……and bring more dope mix-tapes. What artists are you listening to right now? Rick Ross and Meek Mill….and a lot of Chicago artist like Chief Keef, Yung Holla, King Louie…. Who would you like to work with in the future? I would like to do some work with Meek Mill, he is a dope dude! What steps would you take as a DJ to break an artist’s record? I would start by picking the right record for the artist to push. Test it out in all the clubs where I DJ, keep the record in a constant rotation…Then encourage the artist to come out to support the record and see the reaction of the people when it’s played. Are you currently with a radio station or DJ Club? I’m a mix show DJ for Power92 Chicago and a member of the Core DJ’s. Is there anything you would like our readers to know? I definitely want them to know I will be in a city near them soon. I plan on doing more work with DJ’s in surrounding cities as well. I will keep putting out dope mix-tapes and rocking parties to an all time high. Last but not least - whats has been the craziest moment in your career? Wow! I would have to say one time I was spinning and this woman took off all her clothes in the DJ booth.
